Required Work Cards

Bartenders in Las Vegas are required to have certain work cards in order to legally work in Clark County. We will go over these work cards in detail…

Alcohol Awareness Card (TAM Card)

Anyone who serves or sells alcohol as part of their employment duties in Clark county is required to complete alcohol awareness training and obtain their alcohol awareness card. This is sometimes referred to as a “TAM Card” which is a brand name.

To obtain the alcohol awareness card, register online and watch the safety video. Then, stop in at one of the testing offices to pick up the physical card. Bartenders must have their alcohol awareness card on their person at all times while on the job.

Alcohol cards may be obtained voluntarily and should be obtained before a job begins.

Food Handlers Card (Health Card)

Anyone who serves drinks or food as part of their employment duties must obtain a Food Handlers Card, also called a “health card” by Las Vegas locals. Food Handlers Cards are issued by the Southern Nevada Health District.

To obtain the food handlers card, register online and watch the safety video. Then, stop in at the SNHD office on Decatur Blvd. Bartenders must have their health card on their person at all times while on the job.

Food Handler cards may be obtained voluntarily and should be obtained before a job begins.

Sheriffs Card

Anyone who works in an establishment that has a gaming license will have to get a Sheriffs Card. These are categorized as “gaming” and “non-gaming”. The purpose of a Sheriffs Card is to do a criminal background check on employees. You can NOT get a Sheriffs Card voluntarily. You must wait until you are hired. Your employer will then give you the appropriate paperwork to get your card.
